Six years after Canada afforded same-sex couples the right to legally marry, our social mores have remained intact. Despite some dramatic predictions from naysayers, Canadians have not started embracing bestiality and paedophilia, nor have heterosexual unions suffered (although, as the author points out, how gay marriage might have hurt conventional marriages is pretty unclear).

This story is both captivating and encouraging. I am absolutely fascinated by the fact that there are tribes of people in the Amazon that have been untouched by the technological baggage of the 21st century, and I’m happy to hear that the Brazilian government is working to preserve the land on which the tribes live and hunt and to ensure that they maintain their traditional way of life.

I’ve never really been on the Oprah bandwagon. I’ve caught the show on a few occasions, but daytime talk shows have never really been my bag, and to be honest, I found her a little cheesy at times. I’m not much for touchy-feely mantras and I never really understood why people felt that airing their deepest, darkest secrets on national television was an essential component to the healing process.
