The Wastrel’s Tool Box: February 2012

The finer things: all you need to enjoy them is a lousy goddamn job. Photo by Flickr user Gryphes.
Can you believe it’s been almost six months since the last edition of The Wastrel’s Toolbox? I can. In fact, long unexplained absences are an occupational hazard of the loafer. I can’t promise it won’t happen again, and you’re going to have to learn to deal with that, much as I have. But for the next few glorious weeks I will probably put my head down and do my best to ease you through your transition from unfulfilled toiler to enlightened lay-about.
Since the Thought Out Loud editors have unsympathetically pointed out that my role of providing Internet-based distractions has been usurped by sites like reddit and tumblr, I will shift focus. Henceforth, I will attempt to provide a more theoretical framework for celebrating idleness. Over the next few weeks, I’ll fill you in on some of the highlights of my absence from TOL: the pros and cons of a Caribbean vacation, a wonderful road trip, and even the necessary evil of toiling at work (Caribbean vacations being really expensive, after all). To wrap up the month, I’ll share some ideas on ski-lifts and other wonderful places to ease into total relaxation. But don’t worry, if the only reason you’re reading this is to find links to some of the most useless content on the Internet, I will try not to disappoint.
Look for the Wastrel’s next installment – The Work of a Wastrel: How to live a life of idleness without sacrificing luxuries like top-shelf scotch, organic vegetables and shelter.
