This modern love…

My first boyfriend coincided with my first computer, the latter used almost exclusively to feed an addiction to the instant-messaging dinosaur ICQ. The program’s ubiquitous “uh-oh” sound is now nostalgic to those who came of age with the screeching sound of dial-up Internet, and for that sliver of a generation, this chime – and the whole ICQ experience – was a huge, pre-and-then-fully pubescent deal.

Let me sum up my view. There is no god of Abraham just as there is no Zeus. Therefore, theology is just mythology that some people believe is true. For me, it really should be as simple as that. However, I feel the need to comment further, as the silly subset of mythology known as eschatology has received an inordinate amount of press of late.

I understand the pressure, and we were all cheering for you. From Yellowknife to Seoul and back again we held you to the highest standard. Could you handle it? It was a huge party, perhaps bigger than your Olympics shindig. But unlike then, you didn’t have all your friends watching out for you. You wanted to party hard, and had no exit strategy.

The future of Canada will depend on the nation’s continued ability to peacefully co-exist culturally, politically, and socially.

I’ve never really been on the Oprah bandwagon. I’ve caught the show on a few occasions, but daytime talk shows have never really been my bag, and to be honest, I found her a little cheesy at times. I’m not much for touchy-feely mantras and I never really understood why people felt that airing their deepest, darkest secrets on national television was an essential component to the healing process.
